If some of your text messages aren't appearing within Droid Transfer, you should first check to make sure that you haven't set any limits on how many messages appear within Droid Transfer. Please click the 'Set Dates' option in the 'Messages' section of Droid Transfer and then ensure that all messages are set to be shown.
You should also make sure that the Transfer Companion app on your Android device has the correct permissions enabled to access the messages on your device. To do this, please follow the instructions below:
- On your device, open the main settings app
- Tap on Apps or Application Manager (This may be different depending on your device)
- Tap Transfer Companion within the last of apps.
- Tap Permissions, then ensure that Messages is enabled
Advanced Messaging/Chat Messages
When using Droid Transfer, if some of your messages are not displaying, it could be that you or the person you're messaging is using Advanced Messaging.
Droid Transfer supports SMS, MMS and standard use of RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages, implemented by operators such as Sprint, Verizon and Vodafone, but does not currently support operator-specific extensions to this messaging type, such as AT&T's Advanced Messaging. For this reason, Advanced Messages are not displayed fully, or copied with Droid Transfer.
What can I do?
You can confirm the type of message by going to the Messages App on your phone and long pressing a sent message to display the message properties. The message type may display "Advanced Message" or "Chat Message" .
Unfortunately, once you have sent messages using the Advanced Messaging format, it is not possible to revert these messages back to the standard SMS.
You can however turn off Advanced Messages in your device's settings as shown in the screenshot below, so that any future messages can be backed up by Droid Transfer.
